Partial Discharge Testing and Monitoring

Identify and address equipment faults at the earliest possible stage.

Partial discharge (PD) is one of the earliest signs of an emerging fault in electrical systems. Accurately identifying the signs of PD gives you the best chance of mitigating problems before they occur — and the best chance comes from our advanced PD measurement and monitoring solutions through the use of partial discharge meters and analyzer.

Megger’s portfolio includes tools for accurate partial discharge testing and analyzing, through the use of partial discharge meters and detectors that can identify deteriorating insulation and weak spots in rotating machines, transformers, cables, switchgear, and bushings. Our advanced partial discharge monitoring and measurement solutions can be used to implement condition-based maintenance strategies on-site, or to complete rigorous quality assurance tests to fulfil factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) requirements.

Ready to harness the powerful searching capabilities of PD measurements but can't allocate resources today? Let Megger handle it for you. Explore the comprehensive services we offer.

Partial discharge is a dielectric breakdown of a small area in the insulation of electrical systems. It can be caused by discontinuities or imperfections in the insulation system.

Partial discharge activity is an indicator of an incipient insulation fault which can lead to an insulation breakdown and costly outage of the electrical asset. Megger’s partial discharge detection and analysis equipment provides reliable defect identification, enabling proactive planning to prevent insulation system breakdowns.

Failures of essential electrical assets can cost millions in loss of income or equipment replacement. Partial discharge monitoring provides an early warning indicator of incipient faults and crucial data for condition-based maintenance before a fatal breakdown.

Understanding how to choose the right partial discharge detector is key to effective partial discharge testing, detection and safeguarding both your electrical systems and your business.

Depending on the device under test or monitoring, different sensors and instruments can be used: a combination of GISmonitor or AIAcompact and UHF sensors for Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), ICMmonitor, ICMobserver and ICMsystem for transformer/rotating machine monitoring and measurement along with coupling capacitors or bushing adaptors, and cable testing can be performed with ICMflex. Megger offers a wide portfolio including many other partial discharge test equipment and instruments for different applications.
