BITE field calibration verification
Each Megger BITE product can measure internal cell impedance, inter-cell connection resistance and dc voltage of cells and jars. But only BITEs can be checked in the field for calibration validity to ensure quality of the data generated. This is because only Megger’s BITE instruments measure current simultaneously to potential.

Regular insulation resistance testing is one of the most cost effective, non-destructive methods of identifying ageing in electrical equipment. With over 60% of equipment failures being ascribed to insulation breakdown, it is a key area to monitor. Diagnostic DC testing is probably the easiest and most convenient method of achieving this due to the small size and weight of the equipment.

UHF PD Diagnosis at high voltage cable terminations
High voltage terminations are essential components in high voltage cable systems. Great reliability is provided by high manufacturing quality and company type testing. However, onsite installations represent a considerable uncertainty for successful service of the system. UHF PD Diagnosis has proven to be a valuable and effective method for measuring high voltage assets because this online measurement is performed at frequencies which are not affected by environmental noise.

Measuring Jars with Multiple Cells using PowerDB
A battery consists of a jar that can contain multiple cells. When performing battery testing, it is recommended to take measurement on the individual cell if possible. However, with most batteries it is only possible to take measurements on the jar. Since this is the smallest unit that can be replaced, this makes sense. Yet some batteries that have multiple cells also have multiple posts that allow for the measurements of the cells within the jar. For this reason we allow PowerDB to be configured for this application and this paper explains how to do that.

Best practices for offline diagnosis of medium voltage cables
The continuously increasing installation complexity for medium voltage power cables, results in many weak spots and therewith cable failures due to bad workmanship. This is mainly caused by the large variety of cable accessories as well as the reduction in insulation thickness and therewith in the margin of error throughout the entire cable installation process. The necessity for both commissioning testing of new cables as well as diagnostic measurements as part of a condition based maintenance is just a logical given fact. Nowadays cable testing as well as condition monitoring are well proven measurement methods for MV power cables which are guided by IEEE 400 [1] and IEC 60502-2 [2] standards.
